Movie Notes: 'Pan' (2015) Didn't Soar High than Expected
Not all that glitter is gold. Some of them are singing pirates.
Pan is a prequel of Peter Pan and set
in World War II London where Peter (Levi Miller) is left in an
orphanage by her mother Mary (Amanda Seyfried) who was later revealed as a Princess Warrior. Being abducted by Pirates, he would be brought to Neverland in order to fulfill a prophecy of defeating the King of the
Pirates, Blackbeard (Hugh Jackman) through the help of his friends including
James Hook (Garett Hedlund).
Suffering from lack of substantial astonishing scenes and unremarkable storyline, Pan didn't soar high than that expected.
The
main struggle with film adaptations of well-known stories is that it
leaves less space for surprises and twists, so to speak. In the case
of Pan, it is left helpless with its weak story and imagery. The star
studded cast billed by Hugh Jackman and the wonderful performance of
Levi Miller didn't help at all and it was a waste of great acting.
The CGI was also a bit less spell-binding compared to other fantasy adventure films.
The only thing memorable for me would be the rendition of the pirates of Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit with Hugh Jackman leading of course.
I give it a rating of 2 out of 5 and listing it as a GOOD-ISH Movie.
