Movie Notes: Wasted 'A Second Chance' (2015)

A different charm from One More Chance with the strong lessons and reality of married life and relationships in general.

Popoy and Basha are back and they are continuing their love story as a married couple. Their married life started with high hopes but their dreams would turn an unexpected detour. Basha suffers a miscarriage and Popoy struggles with his business and self-esteem.

Technically speaking, I find the movie a bit rushed especially with the sound editing. But other than that, this movie is a mature depiction of married life and their struggles. Bea Alonzo nailed her performance in this one, portraying a more mature side of Basha. John Lloyd Cruz equally gave a good performance but I guess this was Bea's chance to shine in the movie series.

The movie has tried its best to deliver a story that is faithful and realistic to the struggles of married life. The story speaks of the truth that it takes a lot to make relationships work. Trust and forgiveness is the anchoring theme that I saw in the movie. Popoy unknowingly betrayed Basha by keeping the problems to himself and eventually lose everything that he tried to build for their life. Despite everything, Basha chose to remain with him however this only took a toll on Popoy's already shattered self-esteem.

It was stressful to watch with the conflict and confrontation the two characters had to endure throughout the film. It comes to a point that it scares us who are not yet into such relationships to think about whether we want to experience married life. But I believe the movie sans the minor technical hiccups in its production deserves it blockbuster finish. Many couples and would be couples would learn a thing or two about married life or relationships in general in this movie.

With all the heavy scenes in the course of the movie, it felt like we needed a comforting happy ending. But like its predecessor, A Second Chance gives the audience an opportunity to make up their own ending.

3/5 - Good Movie
