Movie Notes: Ant Man (2015)

The Ant-Man might be an obscure character in the Marvel Universe for us not who are not really comic book fanatics. Yes, we are all familiar with the Avengers, Fantastic 4 and recently have been introduced to the Guardians of the Galaxy, but Ant-Man is new for most of us.

I had the same comment after watching Guardians of the Galaxy, it was surprisingly good.  At first, I didn't realize that the character or the movie itself would be anything amazing, but I was wrong.

Ant-Man tells the story of Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) who was recently released from prison who after "breaking-in" the house of Dr. Pym played by Michael Douglas was recruited to be Ant-Man who shrinks in size with the help of a special suit that enables him to have superhuman strengths and a command of an army of various ants. His goal is to steal the Yellowjacket which is the project of Pym's former protegé Darren Cross and stop him from using it for evil.

The film has surely catapulted Paul Rudd's career since it has become a blockbuster success in the past weeks. He played the character perfectly and obviously ready for it physically. The pockets of fun and amusing scenes to note include the unstructured eavesdropped storytelling of Luis played by Michael Pena, probably the best storyteller in my opinion.

It delivered thrill and suspense to moviegoers between the shifting of sizes and the hordes of giant ants blowing up in the big screen are strangely fascinating. It has bits of everything - action, domestic drama, crime, father issues and even undertones of Quantum Physics.

Nonetheless, this movie is a testament to the adage that "best gifts come in small packages" and therefore you should watch it.
