Movie Notes: Not so Spectacular 'Spectre' (2015)
Following Skyfall, M (Judy Dench) leaves a cryptic message that sends Agent 007 (Daniel Craig) into a series of unsanctioned missions to find out the mystery. Under new command and facing eventual dissolution, he would soon uncover a covert evil organization that permeates not only with his past but his present and future as well.
Fun fact, this is just the second Bond movie I've seen so far next to Skyfall. With a competition like Skyfall, it is not surprising that Spectre would struggle.
It has all the elements of what makes James Bond a classic movie franchise; death defying action, womanizing exploits of Agent 007 and a very sleek cinematography. However, the story and character development was so dragging that I fell asleep midway. Craig was becoming more and more distant, mechanical and perhaps dark.
It is disappointing also that the Bond Villain Franz Oberhauser (Christoph Waltz) was too out there and predictable despite the relative short screen time. Even the romantic bond between James Bond and his new Bond girl was all too comfortable and abrupt. Which did not go well with the implied notion that she is the one.
I felt excited when I found out that Monica Bellucci was in the film. She was still beautiful, mesmerizing and delivered a more memorable performance in her cameo than most of the other cast, although this might be a bias because I adore her so much.
I could point out the narrative with its plot holes and dragging pacing as the weak points of the movie however, more than that, it was the shadow of Skyfall.
2/ 5 - GOOD-ish Movie.
