Movie Notes: Fantastic Four (2015)
The Fantastic Four has been rebooted
and from the reactions I've seen in social media, it was a bit of
letdown. However, out of our curiosity we decided to see it for
ourselves and verify what the negative fuss was all about.
After perfectly constructing a teleporter (Quantum Gate) that leads to another dimension called Planet Zero, a
group of young prodigies were indiscriminately booted out of the
project expedition to make way for astronauts. Disappointed, they
decided to embark on the journey themselves in an unsanctioned
expedition to Planet Zero. However, this resulted in a catastrophic
event as they were exposed to an unidentified substance and one of them being left behind
(Victor Von Doom). After an explosion, they found themselves having
superpower like abilities and this leads to the start of a complex
struggle of trying to undo what had happened.
Commentary
The
movie was a bit dull and it was a bit of a waste of a wonderful cast
which honestly did give good performances. It was a stark difference
from the earlier Fantastic Four films by being a bit dark, gloomy and
serious, which in my opinion was too much because it reaches a point of
being an utter bore.
The
CG-heavy fight scenes were a bit sloppy and felt more like a made for
TV movie and there were a lot of continuity gaps. At the back of my mind
the story felt like a drag because the movie is struggling to develop
the characters. The reactions were right that it was a letdown and a
disappointment.
But
if ever this film gets a sequel, I hope the drag of this first
installment could pick up on it since the characters have already been
established.
This
movie was really a letdown but you have to give credit to the team that
made this for trying to give a new take on the slew of superhero movies
we have seen so much lately. However, the result proved that the odds
were not in their favor.
