Movie Notes: Mission: Impossible - The Rogue Nation (2015)
Running for almost two decades now, the mission impossible franchise has outlived the average life of film franchises before they start to be annoying and utter embarrassments.
Plot
After yet another dangerous mission, Ethan Hawke faces a new mission to crack down an emerging force of former operatives from various intelligence agencies from around the world called the Syndicate who are out to set a new world order. The situation further complicates as the IMF is liquidated and Ethan Hawke is being hunted down as a fugitive.
Commentary
For someone who has never seen a single earlier movies from this franchise, the movie delivered very well. It was not disappointing and the screenplay provided numerous Red Herrings from start to finish that leaves viewers thinking what would happen next.
The ensemble of the characters which have become the formula for spy-thrillers these days such as the Femme Fatale, Jester, Non-stereotypical hacker, Strategic Technocrat boss and the determined and no remorse villain were cliched but still worked. The spy-thriller delivered well in action sequences and Tom Cruise who despite her age still proves he is still at his prime. The injections of humor through Pegg's oblivious character provided breathers in between the action and suspense. Though you might want to empty your bladder before watching this because every scene seemed so integral and exciting, but holding it would be worth it.
The movie deserves it's box office success and has added another leash for this long running franchise.
